Curious About the Common Core?
The purpose of the Common Core State Standards is to get our students college and career ready. Common Core Standards will be in place beginning with the 2014-2015 school year in all California schools. These standards are rigorous, research-based, and align with college and career expectations. All teachers at Mountain Avenue will receive on-going professional development throughout this school year. We will have four modules of training. The main instructional shift with the Common Core is that it is aimed at: infusing literacy throughout all disciplines; teaching our students reading strategies for informational (non-fiction) text; and teaching them how to apply concepts that involve critical thinking skills.
