Dear Families,
Welcome to Second Grade!
Homework begins this week. All homework is to be completed by Friday morning. Any weekly written assignments are to be returned in the Thursday folder on Friday morning.
Please go to our class website each week: http://msmcfarlane.weebly.com, to view and/or print the homework assignments. They will normally be posted on Sunday evening or Monday morning. Please help your child check the website and print the necessary assignments. In addition, please help him or her find a comfortable, quiet place to work each afternoon. Although homework is given out weekly, students are to spend no more than 20 minutes per day on these assignments. It is most effective for students this age to work in short (10-15 minute) periods, with breaks in between. Required reading time is an additional 20 minutes per day. Reading minutes can be a combination of reading to self, reading to someone, and reading with someone.
Spelling or vocabulary practice will be a part of most weekly homework assignments. Word lists can be accessed and practiced at the Spelling City website. Please remind your child to practice his or her assigned spelling or vocabulary words each day. Tests are given each Friday (Thursday on short weeks). Please note: Online activities such as IXL and Spelling City do not require printing, but remember, I can see who is, and isn't practicing!
If you have questions or concerns about homework (or anything else) please contact me right away. The best way to reach me is via e-mail ([email protected]), or you may leave a note or telephone message for me in the office.
It was a pleasure meeting so many of you at Back to School Night! If you weren't able to attend, please contact me if you have any questions about the Back to School packet of information.
Sincerely,
